Germany and Canada join forces to enhance biopharmaceutical R&D internationally

Montreal, October 6th, 2015. – CQDM and AiF Projekt GmbH, the project management agency of BMWi, the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, are very pleased to announce the launch of a new international funding initiative entitled the Canada/Germany joint program, within CQDM’s Canada/Europe joint funding initiative. This collaboration agreement aims at funding collaborative research between the two countries. The main goal of the Canada/Germany joint program is to strengthen research in Canada and Germany by aligning scientific resources and expertise. This gives the opportunity to R&D projects jointly conducted by Canadian and German private and public research entities to develop new expertise and to expand into new markets.

Each project will benefit from a funding between $500k and $1M over a two or three year period. The contribution by Germany, intended to the German research entities involved in the project, will be provided by the Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM Cooperation projects) and is technology open. Funds provided by Canada, for the Canadian research organizations collaborating on the project, will come from CQDM and is aimed at creating value for the life sciences and biopharmaceutical industry.

Applicants will have until January 15th, 2016 to apply. German researchers are invited to submit their letters in intent with AiF Projekt GmbH and Canadian researchers with CQDM.

 


 

Guidelines for the funding of “Partnerships for sustainable solutions in developing and emerging countries – Research for development” with the Central Asian and South Caucasus countries

As part of the Federal Government’s strategy to internationalise science and research, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has announced guidelines for the funding of “Partnerships for sustainable solutions in developing and emerging Countries – Research for development – Pilot measures for partnerships in science, research and education with the Central Asian and South Caucasus countries”.

The aim of this announcement is to fund and support research on the issue of supply security while taking into account the local and regional implementation of research results in rural and urban areas.

  • Preventive health care: Reducing environmental diseases and health risks. Both research on the reduction of infectious diseases and on neglected and/or poverty-related diseases is eligible for funding, as is research on the mitigation of the impact of geohazards on people's livelihoods.
  • Food security: Reducing vulnerability, increasing resilience and fostering a more sustainable bioeconomy.

Eligible applicants include universities, non-university research institutions and other institutions contributing to research as well as commercial enterprises headquartered in Germany – particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – which fulfil the funding purpose and requirements and are engaged in collaboration with partner institutions from Central Asia and/or the South Caucasus.

Guidelines for the funding of scientific and technological cooperation (STC) with India

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has announced guidelines for the funding of scientific and technological cooperation (STC) with India.

The aim of this announcement is to fund and support joint German-Indian research projects in the fields of medical science and materials science. The planned measures should ideally support research projects that are financed through other sources. They should pursue the following objectives:

  • International networking with India in the following focal areas:
    • New materials
    • Age-related diseases
  • Promotion of young scientists
  • Preparation of follow-up activities (e.g. application for BMBF specialist programmes, Horizon 2020)

Eligible applicants include universities, non-university research institutions and other institutions contributing to research as well as commercial enterprises headquartered in Germany – particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – which fulfil the funding purpose and requirements.

Guidelines for the funding of scientific and technological cooperation (STC) with Singapore

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has announced guidelines for the funding of scientific and technological cooperation (STC) with Singapore.

The aim of this announcement is to intensify cooperation on scientific research and technological development between Germany and Singapore through mobility funding. The objective of the measure for German applicants should be the development of a sustainable collaboration with Singaporean partners.

The measure aims to promote cooperation on scientific research and technological development between Germany and Singapore by supporting the exchange of scientists for joint research projects carried out by universities and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The focal areas for the cooperations with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) are:

  • Biotechnology, health research
  • Environmental and water technology
  • Materials science, particularly graphs and porous materials
  • Information and communication technologies, particularly quantum communications
  • Energy systems, particularly energy efficiency and solar energy
  • Engineering sciences, particularly electronics
  • Economic sciences, humanities and social sciences

Eligible applicants include universities, non-university research institutions and other institutions contributing to research as well as commercial enterprises headquartered in Germany – particularly SMEs – which fulfil the funding purpose and requirements.
