Saxony-Anhalt as a location for Biootechnology and Biopharma consists of four different segments:
In the last years the Red Biotechnology develops into a profiling sector with a solid research basis and competitive R&D teams and rising companies.
Saxony-Anhalt has great technology transfer and translational potentials in the biopharmaceutical development and production and is developing from an attractive production site into an innnovative R&D site for biopharmaceutical products and services.
The plant biotechnology is one of the most important biotechnology segments in Saxony-Anhalt with a longstanding tradition and an efficient research landscape.
The industrial use of renewable ressources has an increasing importance through the establishment of the Chemical-Biotechnological Process Center in Leuna developed by the Fraunhofer Society.

The association bioanalytik-muenster was founded in November 2000 as a regional network for researchers, companies and public organisations. It serves as the central communication and information platform for scientists, companies, investors and the public in the area of nanobioanalytics. Bioanalytik-muenster assists the concerted actions of all local players to develop the Münster region to a globally competitive nanobioanalytics location by
- boosting the competitiveness and innovation potential of the region in the area of nanobioanalytiks by targeted matching of the regional competence in academia and companies,
- raising funds for the advancement of the region,

BioCologne is an association to support biotechnology and life sciences in the cologne region. Members are biotech companies, academic and research institutions, investors, business consultancies and technology parks. The BioIndustry e. V. is a registered association which main purpose is to activate, to concentrate and to develop biotechnological competences in the Ruhr Region. As a networked service cluster of 55 companies, research and training institutes, technology centres, biotechnological service providers and communal business development organizations the association’s objective is to generate product- and process-innovations in biotechnology.
Our member´s competences cover the entire spectrum of biotechnology with focus on medical biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, AgriFood biotechnology, Bioinformatics and enabling technologies. Members are supported by service providers span all necessary management consulting and legal advisory services.
The regional decision-makers meet and exchange experience on a regular basis to support the active transfer from ideas to market. Members get assistance to find appropriate business partners, to develop and promote their projects and to acquire public funding.

BioM Biotech Cluster Development GmbH serves as the coordinating and central consulting agency of the Munich Biotech Cluster. The Munich Biotech Cluster is a constantly growing hotbed of innovation with over 20,000 persons employed by more than 350 companies in the life science sector (Biotech, Pharma, CRO, Suppliers) making Munich one of the top regions in Europe.
BioM provides support in financing, business development, marketing and public communications, also maintaining an information portal at www.bio-m.org.

The BioPark Regensburg GmbH is the management and administrative headquarters of the biotechnology research cluster known as BioRegio Regensburg in East Bavaria. Located strategically at the northernmost point of the Danube, in the Austrian-Czech-German triangle, the area is regarded as the gateway to the East of the extended European Union. Currently 42 firms with over 2500 employees are active in the field of life sciences in BioRegio Regensburg. As a result it has become the most important region for Biotechnology in Bavaria, second only to Munich.

BioRegio STERN Management GmbH is a skill-sharing network, providing a help and advice centre for founders of new businesses, entrepreneurs and researchers in the biotechnology sector in the region comprising Stuttgart, Tübingen, Esslingen, Reutlingen and Neckar-Alb in Germany. BioRegio STERN promotes cooperation between such different disciplines as medicine, biochemical engineering, sensor technology, dietetics, biochemical analysis and bioinformatics. Key areas of focus are regenerative medicine and medical technology.
BioRegio STERN represents the interests of founders of new businesses, entrepreneurs and researchers when dealing with the political sector, the media and associations, coordinates economic promotional activities and marketing and provides advice for grant applications and corporate financing, all backed up with efficient press and public relations work.

BioRegioN is the regional health economy initiative for Life Sciences of the Lower Saxony Ministry for Economics, Labour and Transport.
BioRegioN connects, advises and supports companies, universities, research institutions and many other players in the areas of health economy, biotechnology and biomedical technology in Lower Saxony. BioRegioN targets to strengthen the network structures in the respective industries and to sustainably ensure and expand the competitive position of companies. Furthermore the mobilization of existing and the opening of new innovation potentialities is a goal just like achieving an increased market and application orientation of scientific research.
The overall aim is a sustainable protection and strengthening of the business and innovation location in the international competition. On behalf of the Lower Saxony Ministry for Economics, Labour and Transport the Society for Biomedical Technology and Innovation (BiomeTI) e.V. runs the office of BioRegioN.

The Innovation and Entrepreneur Center (IGZ) in Wuerzburg represents one of the major biotech clusters in the Free State of Bavaria. Main topics in this bioregion are biotechnology and biomedicine , medical technology and nanotechnology. The bioregion and the IGZ are located at the Science Park in Wuerzburg, an area of 70,000 square meters reserved for the settlement of high-tech companies and service providers located in the east of Wuerzburg. Here, some 2,500 square meters of laboratory space with adequate technical infrastructure, and about 3,000 square meters of office space are available for high-tech companies. The bioregion benefits from its proximity to the university and university hospital, the university of applied sciences, and numerous research facilities.

History: Since 2004 BioRiver is the active network organisation for the life science industry in the Rhine region between Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bonn and Aachen. Independent from public funding, the initiative is financed by its members.
Objectives: BioRiver catalyses intensive knowledge transfer between academic research and companies and sees to an additional marketing for the members and the region. Furthermore the organisation successfully aims to improve the political awareness and financial general conditions.
Actions: Besides network activities, meetings and information BioRiver realises the BIO.NRW.academy by the order of BIO.NRW. Many of the BioRiver projects stand out by their making in cooperation with local, regional or other partners.

The Berlin-Brandenburg region offers outstanding development potential and ideal conditions for the biotech industry. As a leading Biotechnology Center in Europe, Hessen offers unsurpassed opportunities for the biotechnology industry – a concentrated network of higher education and research institutes combined with a vast pool of highly qualified life sciences personnel.
In order to promote the biotechnology industry, the Hessian Ministry for the Economy has established “Hessen-Biotech” as a central coordination point.
Hessen-Biotech:
- Offers up-to-date industry information (studies, “Hessen-Biotech NEWS” and Hessen’s online biotech industry directory “Competence Atlas Hessen-Biotech”.
- Connects and advises biotechnology companies: Facilitate information exchange between Hessen’s companies, colleges, universities and research institutions.
- Is a communication platform: Organizing cooperative booths at international trade fairs as well as symposiums, workshops and congresses on current biotechnology discussion topics.
Hessen-Biotech is administered and managed by the Hessen Trade & Invest GmbH in Wiesbaden.

Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg do not only score with a high quality of life. Especially the North’s infrastructure - the entry into thematic networks, the availability of highly qualified personnel and the proximity to science - characterizes the region. Additionally, North Germany offers an outstandingly well networked industry structure and elaborate funding instruments along with strong governmental assistance. Since its foundation, the cluster has developed very favorable conditions for companies and scientists, also in an international context.
Life Science Nord is represented in the Council of German BioRegions by Norgenta North German Life Science Agency, TuTech Innovation GmbH and WTSH Business Development and Technology Transfer Corporation of Schleswig-Holstein.

We are the biggest association in Life Sciences in the Aachen-Juelich region. More than 65 members (research institutes and companies) profit from the close networking within the region and the neighbouring regions in the Netherlands and Belgium. The association was founded in 2000. It is dedicated to the fields of biotechnology and medical engineering.
