Fraunhofer Life Science Symposium Leipzig 2010
29.10.2010 - 30.10.2010
This years Fraunhofer Life Science Symposium (FLS) will shine a light on a subset of stem cell therapies that are currently being applied in the clinic. With the title "Stem Cells for Immunotherapy, Immune Disease and Disorders" the 2010 FLS addresses the recent breakthroughs in the application of stem cell solutions to immunological problems.
In the area of stem cells therapies, with the costs and complexity of clinical trials, many assume that wide scale application is far away from reality. The speakers will however demonstrate that cell therapy is here and now, across many clinics; in particular, in the area of immunologic disease and disorders it represents a wide-open and particularly applicable therapeutic area. Many chronic difficult-to-treat diseases of aging have their roots in immunological imbalance. These include autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. However, cell therapy for immunomodulation also includes inducing tissue tolerance in organ transplant, inducing immune cells to attack cancerous tissue, and preventing the immune system from damaging its own tissues as in type II diabetes. During the 5th Fraunhofer Life Science Symposium we could bring together clinicians and researchers, active in the field of Stem Cells for Immunotherapy.
The positive feedback from the previous Fraunhofer Life Science Symposia which focused on topics as varied as Tissue Regeneration in Veterinary Medicine and Rapid Prototyping was enormous and has encouraged us to continue the series.
In the name of the Fraunhofer Institute of Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI I am proud to announce the upcoming 5th Fraunhofer Life Science Symposium. From October 29 - 30, 2010 we are inviting you cordially to Leipzig.
With kind regards,
Professor Dr. Frank Emmrich
