Introduction

The premiere was a success – on 5 December, more than 120 guests attended BIO Deutschland’s first ever benefit event for the German Alliance for Rare Diseases (ACHSE) at the Hotel de Rome in Berlin.

Guests included many representatives from biotechnology firms and sector service companies, as well as from politics, the public authorities, science and the media. The evening was supported by the companies, Lorenz Archivsysteme and Miltenyi Biotec, as well as by the Komische Oper Berlin and the Hotel de Rome.

Following words of welcome by Peter Heinrich, Chairman of the Board of BIO Deutschland and CEO of MediGene AG, and a speech by Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker, Secretary General of the European Research Council, Mirjam Mann, Managing Director of ACHSE, thanked the guests for their support. During a collection at the tables, guests donated 11,000 euro. This sum, along with the amount raised by the event, will shortly be presented to the patron of ACHSE, Eva Luise Köhler.

Entertainment was provided by the surprise guests, Nicola Proksch from the Opera Studio of the Komische Oper Berlin, who was accompanied by Thomas Lausmann, the Musical Director of the Opera Studio of the Komische Oper Berlin, in a performance of Adele’s second aria from the operetta, Die Fledermaus, and Musetta’s aria from the opera La bohème. After the four-course dinner in the Grand Ballroom, guests were able to show off their dancing skills to live music performed by the Capital Dance Orchestra Quintet until late in the night.
