News about EU regulations on medical devices and in vitro diagnostics
At the beginning of February, NAKI – Germany’s National Working Group on the implementation of the EU’s new Regulation on medical devices (the MDR) and Regulation on in vitro diagnostic medical devices (the IVDR) – met in Bonn to discuss the progress of the work being carried out by the seven NAKI subgroups (SGs).

International standards experts convene in Rome
In late November the international experts on the ISO Technical Committee 276 Biotechnology (ISO/TC) met in Rome. The Working Groups “Terms and Definitions”, “Biobanks/Bioresources”, “Analytical Methods”, “Bioprocessing” and “Data Processing and Integration” discussed the current status of their respective projects.

BMUB holds meeting about the Nagoya Protocol’s impact on digital sequence information
On 29 November, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) held a meeting with various stakeholders at the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation in Bonn to discuss whether digital sequence information (DSI) falls within the scope of the Nagoya Protocol, and the consequences this would have for research.
