BIO Deutschland statement on adoption of the National Bioeconomy Strategy

The Federal Cabinet has adopted the new National Bioeconomy Strategy, which was jointly presented by Federal Ministers Anja Karliczek and Julia Klöckner in Berlin on 15 January. The aim of the strategy, which is underpinned by the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, is to drive forward the bio- and knowledge-based economy in Germany. BIO Deutschland welcomes that the new National Bioeconomy Strategy has been launched and adopted by consensus of all the ministries involved.

ISO/TC Biotechnology convenes in Toronto, Canada

The work of the international standards committee for biotechnology has picked up pace. The experts gathered in Toronto in early December 2019 to discuss the progress of the various projects that the committee’s five working groups are working on. BIO Deutschland is represented on the committee by Michael Kahnert.

Meeting with the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister Volkmar Wissing

The Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Economic Affairs, Transport and Agriculture and Deputy Minister President, Volker Wissing, met with Claus Kremoser (Phenex Pharmaceuticals), Sierk Poetting (BioNTech) and Cay Frederic Horstmann (BIO Deutschland) in Mainz in December for an exchange on biotechnology.

German government’s Pharma Dialogue focuses on technology transfer and translation

On 4 November, the German government held the third round of top-level discussions as part of its Pharma Dialogue. At the beginning of the meeting, Sabine Weiss, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG), announced that this would be last meeting at this level during the current legislative period and that the issues discussed would now be followed up at the technical level.

Ministerial meeting held on the Industrial Bioeconomy Dialogue Platform

Economics Minister Peter Altmaier and Research Minister Anja Karliczek attended the meeting. Also present from the two ministries were Director-Generals Winfried Horstmann (BMWi) and Volker Rieke (BMBF), the relevant Heads of Division and their staff, as well as industry representatives.
