Animal Welfare: Meeting of Experts at the German Federal Ministry of Research

The objective of the meeting held on 22 January 2009 at the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, which was attended by around twenty representatives of industry associations, and scientific institutions and councils, was to make a preliminary review of the statements that had been submitted. In addition, the topics of further possible measures and methods of communication about the need to use animals for scientific purposes were on the agenda. During the meeting, the participants discussed various ways of working together and holding discussions with decision-makers in Germany and the EU. BIO Deutschland and the other participating organisations had submitted a statement in the run-up to the meeting.
