BIO Deutschland and EY publish 2018 figures for the biotech sector

As in previous years, BIO Deutschland conducted a survey at the beginning of the year to gather data on companies operating in the biotechnology sector. The results were released, in cooperation with EY, as part of a press conference held on 8 April in Frankfurt. The figures show that the sector is growing. Taken together, the revenue of private and public companies rose by 9 percent in 2018, while the number of people employed in the sector increased by 5 percent during the same period. R&D expenditure in the sector also grew year-on-year by 4 percent. The number of biotech companies, however, barely rose to 652, and the number of newly formed companies was particularly low, at 15.

Both private and publicly traded companies contribute to the positive overall picture.
