At the invitation of the Gongshu district, located in the city of Hangzhou in southeast China, BIO Deutschland presented the German bioeconomy at the “2019 Sino-German Bioeconomy and Biomedicine Conference”. The association was represented in a keynote lecture, a panel discussion and an exhibition stand. The association’s Managing Director Viola Bronsema took the opportunity to visit member company BluCon Biotech GmbH’s Chinese sister company Depei Biotechnology. BluCon Biotech was founded in June 2017 and has research laboratories and offices on the BioCampus Cologne. The company is developing a unique process that enables L-lactic acid to be produced from agriculture and forestry residues at the lowest possible cost, enabling the bioplastic polylactic acid (PLA) to compete commercially with fossil plastics. BluCon Biotech cooperates with companies such as Shanghai Tong Jie Liang Biomaterials Ltd. in the production of PLA. Chinese investors announced investments amounting to two billion euros for the further development of the technology platform.
