BIO Deutschland attends Chemicals Industry Dialogue at the Federal Economics Ministry

As part of the Chemicals Industry Dialogue, BIO Deutschland took part on 17 October in a working meeting at the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) together with other representatives from associations and institutions. The aim of the dialogue forum, which kicked off in 2015, is to identify priority issues and problem areas in the chemicals industry, discuss these with policymakers and union officials, and finally identify possible solutions. Following a study recently published by the consultancy firm Kienbaum, the participants decided to carry out, with the help of a concrete example, a detailed analysis of the impact of proposed regulations on the economy’s innovative capacity. They also discussed ways to promote SMEs as well as venture capital and start-ups. The participants were unanimous in their view that support programmes should be designed in as simple and unbureaucratic a way as possible. In addition, the BMWi made clear that there would be no more initiatives concerning tax incentives for research in the current legislative period. At the next meeting in February 2017, the participants will continue their examination of the framework conditions that would enable Germany to rise to second place behind the United States in biotech drug manufacturing. BIO Deutschland will take part in the drafting of an input paper on this topic.
