BIO Deutschland Board Chairman elected Vice-Chair of the International Council of Biotech Associations
The International Council of Biotech Associations (ICBA) was founded in 2014 and currently has 30 member organisations from around the world. The ICBA is led by a Chair and a Vice-Chair. On 27 May, Oliver Schacht, Chairman of the Board of BIO Deutschland, was elected Vice-Chair by the international coalition of national biotechnology trade associations. Steve Bates of the UK BioIndustry Association (BIA) remains the Chair and is extending his term by one year due to the pandemic. The previous Vice-Chair, Siyabulela Ntutela, was no longer available for the position, because he has taken up a new role with ICBA member AfricaBio. The ICBA is currently involved in the international debate about suspending patents for coronavirus vaccine production and on the issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), among other activities.
