BIO Deutschland Holds a Successful Information Evening on Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering for Members of the Bundestag

On 22 March 2007, BIO Deutschland held its second information evening on biotechnology and genetic engineering beside the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. More than 60 members of the Bundestag and other guests from ministries and companies from the biotech sector attended the event. The aim of the information evening was to discuss the opportunities offered by the biotechnology sector to Germany as a business location and what companies need from politicians in order to improve the conditions for healthy growth in the sector.

The future prospects of the whole branch were presented in brief lectures on the innovative potential of the three main areas of biotechnology (red, green and white) with the use of concrete product examples. The current impediments to the development of biotechnology created by politicians were also described. At the dinner following the presentations, members of the Bundestag and representatives from the Ministries of Economics and of Research were able to learn more about the background of the economic potential of German biotechnology from members of the board of BIO Deutschland, participants from the working groups and representatives of the BioRegio task force.
