BIO Deutschland members attend the XPOMET© Convention for Innovation and High-Tech in Medicine

From 21 to 23 March, the XPOMET© Convention was held in the Congress Center at the Zoo in Leipzig. Under the motto “Innovation and High-Tech in Medicine”, the event addressed a broad audience of doctors, health insurance representatives, e-health solution providers and participants from the fields of research and development.

With this interdisciplinary approach, the XPOMET© expert committee gained BIO Deutschland as its patron, enabling a programme block on 22 March for the association. In three showcase sessions, member companies presented their innovations and current use cases on the topics of “Bio IT & Big Data”, “DX² – Medical Diagnostix” and “Red Biotech/Pharmaceuticals”. Presenting companies included Centogene, CureVac, DataArt, SAP, QIAGEN, Therawis Diagnostics and Targos Molecular Pathology.

Martin Pöhlchen, Director of the Bio IT, Big Data & E-Health Working Group at BIO Deutschland and moderator of the showcases, summed up the event: “Biotechnology and digitisation are major innovation drivers in modern medicine. In the future, digitisation will lead to greater interlinkage in all parts of the medical value chain. XPOMET has made an important first contribution to demonstrating the need for innovative health solutions to doctors and hospitals. In Germany, however, we are still at the beginning of the process and further steps will be required, as well as the doctors’ acceptance of digital applications.”
