In October, BIO Deutschland took part for the first time in International BioFest in Melbourne, giving two presentations over the course of Australia’s flagship life sciences conference. The association provided an overview of the current status of European and German regulations in the Global Policy Update session. It also delivered a keynote talk entitled “European Life Sciences Industry Update” that presented key data about the industry in Europe, the EU Commission’s current programmes, the framework conditions and major issues in the European Union, and the business models of European biotech firms. To celebrate the 30-year anniversary of Australia’s biotechnology industry organisation, the BioFest 2016 was comprised of three major conferences coming together over four days and included: AusBiotech 2016, IBS 2016 and Australia Biotech Invest 2016. For three decades the AusBiotech conference has been bringing together Australian and international executives and opinion leaders in the biotech industry. The International Biotechnology Symposium and Exhibition (IBS) has been held since 1960 under the auspices of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). Australia Biotech Invest provides companies and investors with presentation and partnering opportunities. Here are some key figures from BioFest 2016 in Melbourne: There were more than 255 speakers and more than 1,650 delegates from 38 countries, with 37 percent coming from abroad. The largest delegation was from Japan.
