BIO Deutschland welcomes EFI Commission’s call to promote CRISPR/Cas
Press release
In its new annual report, the Commission of Experts for Research and Innovation (EFI) has emphasised the potential of the CRISPR/Cas gene scissors for medicine. BIO Deutschland welcomes this focus, along with calls to promote cutting-edge research and the timely translation of research results. Genome editing via the “gene scissors” can significantly advance the range of therapies for certain diseases. But this Nobel Prize-winning biotechnological method is also highly important for the industrial sector, especially agriculture. Therefore, in the view of the biotech industry, it is necessary to not only promote social discourse on this technology, but also to design the legal framework in such a way that the results of top-class German research can be quickly translated into practice in this country.
