The day before the German Biotech Days got under way, Würzburg was host to the first investors day in Germany to focus exclusively on biotechnology. Nearly 140 participants attended the Biotech Investors Day (BID) at the Congress Centrum Würzburg.

The event was opened and moderated by BIO Deutschland board member and long-time co-head of the Working Group on Finance and Taxation, Jan Schmidt-Brand, from Heidelberg Pharma. Joseph Oakenfold from Deutsche Bank, BID’s main sponsor, then gave a keynote talk entitled “Accessing the US capital markets”. Two symposiums focused, respectively, on the situation in the global biotech industry and today’s most interesting technologies. The programme was organised by BIO Deutschland in cooperation with media publisher GoingPublic. The programme also included twelve start-up pitches in the fields of diagnostics and therapy development as well as a mixed session. The parallel partnering system enabled participants to establish new and intensify existing contacts.

In addition to the main sponsor, Deutsche Bank, the event was also supported by Boehringer Ingelheim, Bayern Kapital, fas, KPMG, Plattform Life Sciences and TVM Capital Life Sciences.

Following the positive feedback from participants, BIO Deutschland will review whether it will start organizing the event on a biennial basis. The biotech sector’s CFO Summit is scheduled to be held in the first half of the coming year.
