Ethics Workshop Held by the Working Group on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Jobs
Bio Deutschland’s Working Group on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Jobs held a workshop on 19 August. At the invitation of Bernward Garthoff (Bayer AG, BIO-NRW), the conference took place in the offices of Bayer AG in Leverkusen. The group discussed which key points on the topic of ethics and legislation should be valid for BIO Deutschland. Hans-Jürgen Quadbeck-Seeger was invited by the group as an expert to this workshop.
Quadbeck-Seeger was the research director of BASF AG from 1989 until 1997. His activities also include participation in the German Bundestag’s Committee of Enquiry on the Opportunities and Risks of Genetic Engineering. In 1998 he was awarded the First Class Federal Cross of Merit. Quadbeck-Seeger has also written books on innovations as well as popular science books on chemistry.
Bernward Garthoff and Helga Rübsamen-Schaeff lead on the subject of ethics and legislation in the working group. Other topics covered by the group include education in natural sciences and entrepreneurship; the investment climate and taxation; entrepreneurs, innovation culture and the public; and development schemes and technology transfer. Karsten Henco is the head of the working group.
