Global Bioeconomy Summit in Nairobi, Kenia

The co-chairs and secretary of the AG Industrial Bioeconomy, Christine Lang and Cay Frederic Horstmann took part in this year's Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS2024). For the first time, the event took place outside of Germany and Europe, in Nairobi, Kenya.The GBS is a forum that promotes dialogue between different actors in order to identify opportunities for global innovation and collaboration and to bring together stakeholders from the bioeconomy across disciplines and sectors. Under the motto “One Planet – Sustainable Bioeconomy: Solutions for Global Challenges”, international representatives from politics, science, civil society and business discussed cross-sectoral topics such as agricultural and food systems, but also bioproduction and biotechnology; ecosystems, as well as supporting mechanisms such as guidelines, finance, standards, measurements and certifications.As co-chair of the International Advisory Council on Global Bioeconomy (IACGB), Christine Lang served as a spokesperson and moderator and was involved in organizing the GBS 2024. Cay Horstmann contributed to the World Economic Forum's “Accelerating the Tech-Driven Bioeconomy” workshop, which took place in advance of the summit.
