International Events: Participation at the Europa-Bio GBE Meeting of National Teams

On 31 March and 1 April, BIO Deutschland attended the meeting of representatives of the EU member states in the EuropaBio Working Group, Green Biotechnology Europe (GBE). The participants discussed strategies and possible courses of action in plant biotechnology in the light of the forthcoming European Parliament and Commission elections. The representatives of the member states exchanged views on topics such as genetically modified organisms (GMOs in sustainable agriculture, socio-economic aspects of GMOs and regulations on coexistence and liability. A clear consensus emerged by the end of the meeting: plant biotechnology must be furthered in Europe so that the connection to this innovative technology is not missed.
