International News: India and Contract Research the Focus of the Health – Made in Germany
Health – Made in Germany, a health sector export initiative started by the Federal Economics Ministry is intended to support German companies via a wide range of measures so that they can enter foreign markets. The aim is to safeguard and develop Germany’s position as one of the leading export nations for health products and services. The ministry has pooled the special expert knowledge required for this field in Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), the Federal Government’s foreign trade and economic development agency. GTAI is putting Health – Made in Germany into practice. To this end, it has organised several working groups, including one on medical biotechnology in which BIO Deutschland has been involved from the beginning.
In 2011, the activities were focused on the topic of bio-manufacturing (for further information, please see http://www.biodeutschland.org/export-initiative.html ). The aim for 2012 is to start activities in the field of contract research as an important source of revenue for many innovative small and medium-sized biotech companies.
In addition, contacts are to be developed in India and Japan, as was previously undertaken in Israel.
A long-term dialogue between Indian and Germany pharmaceutical companies is currently being initiated in India. In the future, these activities are also to include the biotech sector. The next dialogue events are already scheduled during Bio Asia and Bio Bangalore in February 2012. BIO Deutschland will send its member companies further information at the beginning of January.
