Medical biotechnology segment records strong growth

The gross value added in the medical biotechnology segment rose by 12.5 percent to €10.2 billion in 2021, reaching a new all-time high. The segment also saw growth in employment numbers. It employs around 68,000 skilled workers, which corresponds to 6.7 percent of the total workforce in the industrial healthcare industry. The number of employees has risen every year since 2016, according to the results of the National Health Account for Germany, which was prepared by the Federal Economics Ministry.
