Parliamentary Evening on Industrial Cell Technology

The German Society Industrial Cell Technology (DGIZ), which was co-founded by BIO Deutschland, invited guests from the German federal administration and Bundestag, among others, to an information evening at the Permanent Representation of the Land of Schleswig-Holstein to the Federal Government in Berlin. The aim of the parliamentary evening was to explain the growing importance of industrial cell technology in the development of therapeutic agents, cell-based therapy options, and new food and platform technologies, and to present its enormous potential for various challenges faced by society.

Current problems, but also possible future prospects for industrial cell technology in various fields, were outlined in brief presentations. It became clear that while many questions remain to be answered, promising solutions are already available. All of the guests found the event to be an interesting and important venue for exchanging views and information and for dialogue between sector actors. The guests were keen to attend similar events in the future.

After the brief presentations, the guest had a chance to talk to one another and make new contacts. The evening was rounded off by the Euro 2012 semi-final between Spain (which went on to win the European championship for the second time running in an exciting match against Italy a few days later*) and Portugal.

The parliamentary evening on industrial cell technology was sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour, Transport and Technology and the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Marine Biotechnology.
