President of German biotechnology industry association elected chairman of international umbrella organization
At the world's largest biotechnology trade show, the BIO Convention in San Diego, the president of the German biotechnology industry association BIO Deutschland was elected Chairman of the Board of the International Council of Biotechnology Associations (ICBA). Oliver Schacht, who was previously Vice President of ICBA, takes over from Steve Bates of the UK Bioindustry Association for the next two years.
Oliver Schacht comments, "I would like to thank the international biotech community for their confidence in me and look forward to my new role as Chair of the International Council of Biotechnology Associations. Many issues that are important for our innovative industry do not end at national borders, but can only be meaningfully advanced through international exchange and global collaboration, for example patent protection for innovations or the fight against antibiotic resistance. This is why ICBA is so important, alongside national associations. I will work to further expand international cooperation and further strengthen the position of the global biotechnology industry. Because with global cooperation, biotechnology has the potential to master the great challenges of our time if we shape the framework conditions correctly."
The International Council of Biotechnology Associations (ICBA) has been in existence since 2014. It is an association of national biotechnology industry associations that aims to promote public understanding of biotechnology and advocate for policies that support the growth of the innovative biotechnology industry. ICBA represents the global voice of the industry in international bodies with the goal of promoting continued innovation in human health, agriculture, industry and the environment. BIO Deutschland is a founding member of ICBA. The total 30 members of ICBA and further information you can find here: https://internationalbiotech.org
