Standards initiative on bio-based products

In early October, BIO Deutschland participated in the European standards initiative on bio-based products. The technical committee has developed standards that define uniform requirements and test methods regarding the characteristics of bio-based products. These cover horizontal issues including the essential elements of life cycle assessment, sustainability, end-of-life options, and bio-based (carbon) content which are at the heart of bio-based value chains. These standards enable the promotion of bio-based products and their benefits. Future work will focus on emphasising the contribution of bio-based products to the development of a circular economy. There are also plans to generate greater interest in the standards through communication and dissemination efforts.
