Tagesspiegel holds Agenda Talk on “Biotechnology in Germany – Top in the World?”
On 22 March, Oliver Schacht, Chairman of the Board of BIO Deutschland participated in a panel discussion titled “Biotechnology in Germany – Top in the World?”, on which he was joined by Prof. Martina Schraudner, of TU Berlin and Director of the Fraunhofer Center for Responsible Research and Innovation (CeRRI); Thomas Jarzombek, a Bundestag member for the CDU; and Karl Bär, a Bundestag member for Alliance '90/The Greens. The panel was moderated by Sascha Karberg, editor of the Knowledge and Research section of the Tagesspiegel newspaper.
The talk began with a discussion of what is needed in terms of the coalition agreement to make Germany a leading international biotech location. Oliver Schacht made it clear that this could only succeed if a clear biotech agenda was formulated with a start, intermediate targets and a final target, and if the leadership for this came from the Chancellery. All relevant ministries would also have to pull together to achieve this.
