BIO Deutschland’s Working Group on Finance and Taxation met representatives of the Baden-Württemberg Ministries of Finance and Economics on 30 June. The meeting was held at the Haus der Wirtschaft, a conference and exhibition centre in Stuttgart. Before the meeting, the working group discussed amendments to the concept of insolvency and liability for causing illiquidity with staff from the ministries. Current developments in the Law on the Modernisation of Accounting were then dealt with, as was the new text of clause 8c of the Corporate Tax Law.

Following this discussion, Dirk Honold (BRAIN) and Jan Schmidt-Brand (Heidelberg Pharma), who both chair the working group, gave the representatives of the two ministries from Baden-Württemberg an overview of the field of biotechnology with a particular emphasis on the need for capital in the biotech and pharma industries and the current difficult conditions facing innovative companies. In their presentation, they pointed out approaches to improving the capital situation at the corporate level and to supporting innovative small and medium-sized companies. In addition, Thomas Klaue (MediGene) explained the tax significance of loss carry forward for financing a company with equity capital.
