Workshop on the Bioeconomy as an Opportunity for Agriculture and the Chemical Industry to Compete

On 3 November 2014, BIO Deutschland attended a workshop on the Bioeconomy as an Opportunity for Agriculture and the Chemical Industry to Compete. The event was organised by the Bioeconomy Council and took place at the Excellence Business Centre in Berlin Main Station. During the workshop, the Bioeconomy Council presented a brief analysis of the potential and challenges of a bio-based economy for Germany as a business location and then opened the floor for discussion. In addition to BIO Deutschland, those invited to take part in the discussion included other experts from the chemical, biotechnology and agriculture sectors, as well as members of civil society and representatives of the relevant federal ministries. Strategies and prospects for the bioeconomy were explored during the panel discussion with representatives of Fraunhofer WKI, the mining, chemical and energy trade union IG BCE, and the German Farmers’ Association. The main aim of the Bioeconomy Council is to raise awareness of and foster discussion on the cross-sector topic among the public and to promote a broad dialogue.
