Cancer therapy and raspberry flavor – New members inducted into the Biotech Hall of Fame
(Berlin – February 5, 2026) Today, two new members were inducted into the Biotech Hall of Fame, which was established three years ago by the biotechnology industry association BIO Deutschland e. V. ITM Isotope Technologies Munich SE and Insempra GmbH are two successful German biotechnology companies with very different business models. ITM develops and produces radiopharmaceutical cancer therapies and diagnostics, while Insempra specializes in the development and production of lipids, flavors, and fragrances. The research and development activities of both companies illustrate the versatility of biotechnology as a platform technology with applications in medicine, nutrition, and sustainable industrial production. ITM is currently undergoing the approval process with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for an active ingredient targeting neuroendocrine tumors and is seeking a potential market entry in 2026. On the other hand, Insempra supplies products such as raspberry flavoring to the food industry.
Viola Bronsema, Managing Director of BIO Deutschland, says: "Biotechnology is a key platform technology that is hugely important for industrial value creation in Germany. The central role played by biotechnology companies in medicine – especially for patients with immunological diseases and cancer – is well known. Biotech companies account for around half of all new therapies worldwide. Their contribution to everyday life is becoming increasingly visible. To illustrate this, we have created the Biotech Hall of Fame. Here, we profile and honor companies that use biotechnology to create valuable products or offer services for their development."
Jens Klein, CEO of Insempra, adds: "We are delighted to receive this honor. It is important to raise awareness of and recognize the potential of our highly innovative companies. Using biotechnological methods on an industrial scale, we produce substances that previously had to be obtained from our planet's limited resources, for example through petrochemicals or extraction, at great expense. In this way, we can make an important contribution to sustainability and supply chain stability."
Klaus Maleck, CFO of ITM, comments: "Our goal is to significantly advance patient care with advanced diagnostics and innovative treatments, and to create new treatment options and clinical solutions. As the market leader in the supply of the radioisotope lutetium-177 for the production of radiopharmaceuticals for cancer treatment, we are already making an important contribution to healthcare. We are delighted to be inducted into the Biotech Hall of Fame."
The Biotech Hall of Fame currently includes the success stories of twelve German biotechnology companies that started out small as start-ups or spin-offs and have successfully implemented their business ideas. Additional company profiles will be added in the coming months.
