Environmental Week 2024 – BIO Deutschland presents sustainable novel alternatives to conventional foods
(Berlin – June 4, 2024) The doors to the Environmental Week 2024, which is taking place at the invitation of the Federal President and the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) in the garden of Schloss Bellevue for two days, open today. The biotechnology industry association BIO Deutschland is presenting the “Ecological comparison of foods with the biotechnologically produced alternative” at the exhibition. Biotechnological alternatives to conventional foods such as meat, cocoa, cheese or fish dishes can make an important contribution to reducing greenhouse gases, water consumption and nutrient input, as well as land use. The exhibition provides information about the current state of research in the production of these alternative foods, as well as their positive impact on environmental and climate protection.
Viola Bronsema, Managing Director of BIO Deutschland e. V., explains: “We are delighted that we have been selected for the Week of the Environment with our forward-looking topic for the exhibition, because biotechnology is not only extremely important for our health. With the help of biotechnology, many foods of animal origin can also be produced sustainably. Cultured meat or cheese alternatives made from fermentation can save greenhouse gases and water and reduce land consumption. In addition, animal suffering is of course reduced. With our contribution to the Environmental Week, we would like to highlight the potential of biotechnology for healthy and sustainable nutrition. We look forward to many interested visitors.”
The Environmental Week will take place on June 4 and 5, 2024 in Berlin. The Federal President and the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) are inviting people to an exchange for a greener future in the park of Schloss Bellevue. A diverse program of events, exciting discussions and around 190 exhibitors presenting their ideas for a sustainable future await participants there. The focus is on current environmental issues such as hydrogen, energy system transformation, biodiversity and much more. BIO Deutschland can be found at booth no. 42.
