BIO Deutschland and the German Startups Association co-hosted a networking event for entrepreneurs from the biotechnology and information technology sectors on 7 November 2014. The two sectors are united by a shared interest in the topics of start-up culture, venture capital and strategies on financing innovations. Around 30 participants from the innovative biotech and IT sectors met in the informal setting of BASE-camp in Berlin.
Following welcoming speeches by Oliver Schacht, a member of the board of BIO Deutschland, and Sascha Schubert, a member of the board of the German Startups Association, Ingmar Hoerr, one of the initiators of the gathering, opened the event. He welcomed the guest speaker, Friedrich von Bohlen und Halbach, who founded the company Lion Bioscience in the 1990s; this firm was subsequently floated on the stock exchange. Von Bohlen is now Chairman of the Board of the company Molecular Health, which he also founded, and works as an investment consultant for SAP founder Dietmar Hopp. During his brief talk, von Bohlen spoke about changes in the field of innovation financing over the past two decades, described his own experiences and told anecdotes.
The participants enjoyed lively discussions over refreshments at the end of the event.
